I would have to say one of the most popular requests amongst people in the gym is to get 6 pack abdominals.Without question, getting this difficult goal not only takes hard work, but also shows that you know what you are doing in the gym.

Discovering how to attain six pack abs is definitely not a "walk in the park" but it’s also not the hardest, as long as you follow the right path.

So, what should you be doing to get results?

Concentrate on your diet. Without a strict diet, six pack abs will never happen for you. One thing you must realize is that while exercise is important, it’s only going to take you so far.

No matter how many crunches or sit-up variations you perform, if you’ve got a load of fat covering your stomach, your muscles are not going to be seen.

Concentrate on consuming adequate amounts of protein to keep your appetite under control, supplemented with healthy fats for satiety and fruits and veggies for energy.

It is important, however, that you are running a calorie deficit, because regardless of the food you eat, if you are consuming more than you burn off that day, you aren’t going to lose weight.

Next up on your quest for six pack abs, you need to make sure you change up the exercises you perform on a regular basis.

While it’s o.k. if you have exercises that you generally like to perform try and alternate between at least a few from week to week.

The main reason for this is because your abdominal muscles adapt to change very quickly. As soon as they are finished adapting, you are going to stop seeing results - this is the truth about six pack abs.

By keeping them guessing, you keep the results coming as well. Don’t make the mistake of doing the same boring workout, day in, day out.

Get your cardio in check Step three for getting a nicely chiseled stomach is performing cardio properly. This isn’t to say you should run out and start doing hours upon hours on the treadmill. We aren’t aiming to turn you into a hamster here.

All you really need is a several sessions of cardio work a week. What’s high quality? Sprint sessions. Skipping. Hill running. Anything your body is not efficient at.

Yes, these exercises are going to be much more intense than walking along at a moderate pace while you read the fitness magazine of the week, but trust me, you will get results a thousand times faster.

Get that intensity up for thirty to forty seconds and then back it down again for another minute. Repeat this process eight to ten times and you’ll have a workout that’ll shed that body fat in no time.

According to a 2001 study by the American Council on Exercise, the three best exercises for upper and lower abs are: the bicycle maneuver, the captain’s chair, and crunches on an exercise ball.

Of these three top exercises, the very best, the bicycle maneuver, requires no equipment at all, and the third best exercise, crunches, while most efficiently done on an exercise ball, can be done nearly as effectively on the floor or on a mat.

That means you don’t have to spend a cent to do two of the three very best ab exercises. These exercises were proven to be more effective than the many gadgets and machines on the market, and they are both simple to do.

The second best exercise, the captain’s chair, requires a piece of equipment found at most gyms. This equipment allows you to suspend yourself in the air by your arms, resting against the back of the chair as you lift your legs.

The Best Abs Machine

In that same 2001 study, a few of the ab machines on the market did prove to be effective in toning the abs. In fact, the very best machine tested, the Torso Track, was found to be the fourth most effective exercise.

This machine, like the above three exercises, works both the upper and lower abs at the same time, and is also effective in toning the obliques — those muscles on the sides of your abs.

Some people just seem to prefer to use a machine when working the abs, and they find that they are more likely to follow through with an abdominal routine if they are using a machine. If you are one of these people, the Torso Track is a very good option.

However, for everyone else, the bicycle maneuver and crunches are both more effective, easy to learn, and absolutely free.

6 Pack Abs: What Not To Do

The biggest mistake people make when working on their abs is to concentrate only on the ab exercises themselves. This is a sure way to fail.

The reason for this is that you might well develop incredible abdominal muscles, but they would still be covered in the layer of fat on your abdomen.

Therefore, in addition to working out your ab muscles, you must incorporate both a daily aerobic exercise routine and a sensible eating plan into your regimen in order to be truly successful and achieve your goals.

In fact, it is because of the lack of aerobic exercise and proper diet that most people fail in their quest to get ripped abs and a flat stomach.

There are many great diets and eating plans that will work to help you lose that layer of fat. One of the best eating plans is the Abs Diet. However, simply cutting back on saturated fats, processed grains, and sugars will go a long way to slimming your waistline.

For your daily aerobic exercise, choose an activity that you enjoy doing. This will help you stick to your routine. For instance, you can play basketball or racquetball. You can also try a combination of sprinting and walking to boost your metabolism and really burn that fat fast.

Let’s face it. Both men and women love to have their Abs looking beautiful. Whether you are in bodybuilding or not, having an attractive body attracts more people to you and you feel great. A great looking body is a bonus to your self-esteem and you generate a glow about you that makes people want to know more about you.

In order to get your body looking the way you want it all you have to do is sculpt your body in specific ways. Here are 5 steps to help you get that six-pack abs:

1.Take a look at what you eat - eat a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables and eat small meals rather than larger ones. You can eat vegetables, pasta and meats but make sure they are in the same proportion. As an example, you might eat 1/3 vegetable, 1/3 meat and 1/3 pasta at a serving.

2.Concentrate on body fat - to get your abs looking great you will need to shed your body fat. You can make sure you eat well, then do a combination of weight training and cardio training each week. A good rule of thumb is to do weight training 3 days and cardio the other 4 days.

3.Drink water - you want to keep your body hydrated during the time you are working it and when you drink more water, you have less water retention and have a better start towards those six pack abs.

4.Rest - you need to make sure that you get rest during the day. Short naps are great or however you don’t have to lie down and sleep. You just want to take time to do something restful. It keeps stress away.

5.Be consistent - when you start working on your program make sure to schedule it into your regular routine. If you are inconsistent with your process you will not make the headway that you want.

You might think that doing crunches or sit-ups are the best way to make your abs look better. That was the way that people thought years ago but today this simply isn’t true. It is better to work the entire body because it will promote a total body sculpting so your body will be in proportion.

Another good way to help you form that six-pack abs is to make sure you are burning enough calories when working on your abs is to do interval training. This means you might start on a treadmill and run for a short time then quickly go into walking. Combined with dead lifts or plank exercises will give you a total workout.

Practice of course makes perfect and the more you work and anything you do will require a lifestyle change. If you change your routine even a little to start, you will be well on your way to achieving your goal.
